Blog Hiatus. Research and planning will continue.

I'm sadly going on Holiday to South Africa for Christmas, and my biggest worry is work, but i have it covered, on both ends, even though it will be very rear for me to be online, so i will do my video taking over their collect outfits when I'm there and also learn and discover new ways to improve the video, and this end of the work, the people I'm going to working with will do the location shot and also,  getting everything else wrapped up, in the new year will valiantly return and we will do the list of things before the 14th of January.

• Test music video

1. Voice over, different languages, story line

• Shot testing, for example using a dolly.
• Comparing and being inspired by Johannes Greve Muskat

1. 'Day after' as inspiration for the music video. Black and White and genre, and  then go back and compare later with finished product.

• After effects and photoshop.

1. Alpha Matte words.
2. layering words on top of each other.
3. Glitch effect.

• Introductions to the characters, with make up and outfits, all of them different changes. then commentary on each of them.
• Looking at the genre of work, and how to portray it.
• rating it.
• Look at the Theories + Mulveys.
•  filming of effects i.e smoke, paint, water.
• Film project probably take up to 3 days the most.

rushes and expirementing

So due to not having some of the things for filming, I decide to do some test shots and new ways to use the tripod, using the leaning away and forward movement  and then testing  match on action over simple movemnts and imroving the prevous hair flip movement to ad more dimension by adding a diffrent shot to them. i also expirment with the best type of lighting in the enviroment.

Commentary

This is Jeanine, I am looking at defacing the twins in the music film so they can be unknown faceless figures and looking at hairography and how hair obscureing someones face is very abtrast and masked beautifuly because of the flow.

The hair works effect

This is a test shot of hairography and the mood it gives to the video, I loved the placing I pictured as it was so bright it made the person look pure and still then the movment takes a turn to something warped and almost inner turmoiled yet relieving.

Audition response

After looking at all the auditions and speaking with the candidates, I realized that most of them were fantastic in their performances but the struggle was with time, most of the girls had other school work to do and weren't available when we are going to be filming. Shannon is very shy so even though she is available she doesn't want to participate in being filmed and would rather help with being the camera person, suggesting that I'd be in the music video not only because I would have time to but also because elf my skills in Drama.  So that's what we agreed on.

The story

Characters.

Character moodboard

For the two anonymous characters, I wanted a very dark and sisterly feel to it, they would almost mirror each other but they would also be very different. I want the creepiness to coencide with beauty, and them beaing faceless and very covered, it takes away alot of the sensualnes, that would come from the characters, face and body being shown, so i will pariattly show their mouths and eyes, their hands and hair. their afeet and ankles but limited it to that.

I want a simple band website as the front home page to replcate what the XX do also thinkinbg about adding their songs on the front page like this.

The outline for my digipak is going to be a shot from the video, but since i haven't began shoting it i have done a draft so it can be visual.

Storyboarding

Opening sequence

   The opening sequence, is based from the Syndromes short film, and the voice over will be based on Hurricane and Runaway. It will introduce the charcters to the audience and tell a little bit and forshadow the story




Escape



 Escape in my mind is based on the psyco the shgower scene but i want to romantisece it, the portaryed horror is the one in the shower and we follow our main charcter as she moved around the house, walking up the stairs to him.



Tied Together



 Tied together is the middle video so the climax in the storyline, i feel the characters interate alot more and also are shown beside loads of imagary. to deliever the messages of sensory, super close up on body parts, dialated eyes, and parted lips, shaky hands and sweat.

Mercuary











Mercuarry being the end of the film is slow, but very cool, i feel like the video should disperse and the myserties slightly sold or revaled, the twins should show they faces and the smoke in the woods reveal its origine. it should also come full cirlce with the characters faces.

The refrence from the picture strongly shows the bases of the two characters, half of their faces shown and they mirror each other.   

Production scheduel.

I plan on shoot on January and leading to the beginning of Febuary. Have all the work filmed and orginized to start editing so I then have febuary to complete everything.

Shooting the project in its own e.g the songs and characters will take up to 5 days or less and then a full day in londoin which could fall into 2 days.But the next week will be followed with taping effects, like smoke and ink effects that I can add.

NeonFaith

Neonfaith is a mysterious Indie Electronic project based in Queens NYC and active since 2012. The line up consists of lead singer Megan Faye, Lay and Fef. The trio produces adventurous sounds blending various genres, Electronic, Trip Hop, Psychedelic and Synth Pop with deep vocals. Neonfaith singles released on the Internet include: Escape, Tied Together and Mercury along with Remix of Lana Del Rey and Little Dragon tracks

 My review of Escape, when introduced to the band through word of mouth, Escape was the song that I heard, The picture is very true to the song, i always imagine the busy city. I always think of

  London or a bustling city as we follow the character through it, as she goes around town, dancing to the song uncaring of her surroundings  but then theirs this dark synthesis that makes me think of a darker character, in an abandoned loft, TV static but watching, I'll call this person 'the executioner' , who smashes the static TV having an effect soon the main character in the streets, she glitches.

With tied together, I find the lyrics to be very influenced  unlike the other songs, the beat is a lot more simple, the journey into this musical trance relies on the lyrics, its very visually and sensory based.
It captures a beat and still has this slow and carefree style to it.

I think that Mercury is a very eerie and slow paced song that show finish the video. The ending like Escape is very unexpected but unlike escape instead of it a solid track that liquidates and melts at the end, its a liquid, fluid track that becomes a solid at the end.
The pace of the song at the end is very memorable so to place it as the last track means that it will be left with the audience and that's what I want.

Using all the tracks for me is very crucial , so I thought about adding their remixed version of Carmen by Lana Del Rey, as the promo video, looking at very recent music videos they have a teaser for the Music video. So this would be the soundtrack. The focus would be on the mysterious twins, their actions, them being like mute narrates, all seeing in a sense as the world of other characters go out of control around them.

I love this song, And i always see it as a separate but joined project, an introduction to the cast and crew, a lot of fun, with a feel of Grimes Oblivion type of shooting. where we perform the song in a crowd, dancing and hopefully not being embarassed as much. 

Copyright infringement and the music

I have said it so many times i think its become a mantra to myself. I cannot sing or create music. At all and that is a big problem that I have to face in the creation of my main project since what is a music video without music?
So the plan was to beg and beg for a band to give me permission to use one of their singles, because getting the permission from the creators of the work is better and way cooler.
So I riffled through songs and scoured the net over and over looking back and forth from music that I adore and music that I just recently found then in my little racket of a phone reminded me of my most played list and number three on the list is the song Escape by Neonfaith so feeling inspired by the song i start reaching out to the band and withing hours they replied, giving me the green light on using their single.

Lo and behold the awesomeness of the band!

So whats next? I hear you say, well next is the actual idea of the Video, creating the concept relies strongly on the mood the influence that is given by the music.
I hope to make the Band proud and also feel like I've worked myself to the bone in this project, so i will update the blog a lot more with updates but i feel very positive in the progress and direction in which its going. But as me and the band spoke i realized that i could create the Short film music video, because they had only released songs and their combined time is 13 minutes and 8 seconds, withould clipping the song. so i quickly inqured if i could use alll of their songs and again being cool with it they gave me the go ahead.

So what rating is the project under? 

Since I'm making the video targeted to people my age I think the safest bet is to be a 12A and 15, although i don't think i will have any violence in the video.

During the weekend I wanted to explain my plan for the task but fell very ill and had to take prescribed medication, I still trooped on with the video but it is very scattered due to me being under very heavy medication. I will redo the video when I'm in a better state of mind and also i will add to the explanation and planing, and also have draft videos storyboards of the opening sequence. video that i want to replicate.
